Weight Loss Motivation
Motivation; now better known as positive affirmation is an absolute must when you are in the midst of a weight loss
battle. Why? Because it is too easy to lose heart while dieting—especially when you are the only one in the house
eating off a menu unto yourself.
Weight loss motivation works because most diets promise much and
deliver little. It works because there is no reason you ate the whole cake you had vowed not to touch or
conveniently missed the exercise class you signed up for two mornings before. It is good for reminding ourselves
why we are in the shape we are in or how we can aid ourselves to stick with it even when we do not want to.
Truth is there is no reason for half of what we do but really did not want to. We go from diet to diet and from one exercise routine to another. In diet and weight
loss, as in any other areas where goals are set, the key that gets you over the finish line is motivation. There is
no magic pill to do it for you. There is no wonder drug or series of
recipes that can guarantee you will make it from point A to point B. But
those who are motivated will succeed.
Surround yourself with people who are positive; who care about you and will help you to stay
strong and true to your goal. It is important to keep your level of motivation high throughout your whole program,
including the last 10-15 pounds. Those who admit they need weight loss motivation (and maybe a buddy) are most
likely not only to finish their race but win it. And for those who think their motivators can be put up at the
races end fool only themselves. A reached goal, the perfect weight, a new
outfit is only the beginning. Now you have got to maintain.
Staying focused is a big part of weight loss motivation. The more weight you have to lose the harder it can be
to remain focused. If you are aware of this trait in yourself plan for it. Have someone lined up that you can call,
a safe place you can escape to or activities you can turn to while trying to get through holidays such as
Valentine's Day, Thanksgiving or Christmas. Let your weight loss motivate you to go the extra mile when little else
seems to be working. Or let each mile stone be significant enough to set a new goal.
If self control is waning thin motivate yourself by selecting a treat you can indulge in if you just go a little
farther to reach your targeted finish line—such as a weekend two cities away or a new pair of jeans or shoes. Spas
are popular now—treat yourself every 10 pounds lost!!
Motivate yourself by taking pictures at intervals throughout your weight loss program. Many people find keeping
a journal is a great aid in not only losing weight but in weight loss motivation as well. Skimming back over the
pages to relive past triumphs can be elating especially when you see the inches and weight compared on several
pages. Also make notes on outfits you think you will look good in when the desired goal is reached so you
appreciate how far you have come.
